Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria
1. Very low birth weight infants (VLBWI) with a birth weight of less than 1,500g or infants born at less than 32 weeks of gestational age.
2. Infants born at KNN participating hospitals who were admitted to the NICU of that institution either immediately after birth or within 28 days of life without being discharged home after birth from an external hospital.
Exclusion criteria
1. Infants who were born alive but died in the delivery room and were not admitted to the NICU.
2. Very low birth weight infants (VLBWI) with a birth weight of less than 1,500g or infants born at less than 32 weeks of gestational age who were transferred to the NICU of another hospital within 28 days of birth.
